Gardening & Household Tips and Advice
The following great gardening tips and advice is sposored by Fleet Street Publications.
Use these clever tips to give your garden a cheap and cheerful makeover – putting in less than 2 hours’ solid work!
- Banish mould stains from plastic garden furniture with bicarbonate of soda and water. Make sure you leave the paste on for 2 minutes then wipe off for a sparkling summer sheen!
- Remove winter rust from furniture and tools by mixing 2 tablespoons of salt with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice. Apply mixture to the rust and rub hard.
- Fertilize your soil for free by sprinkling a thick layer of old coffee grounds on the soil surfaces of your garden and potted plants. Coffee is high in nitrogen and other nutrients and it will decompose into an acid-forming nutrient force.
- Kick-start your flower growth by placing banana skins and other fruit and vegetable waste around the base of the plants.
- Slaughter stubborn weeds quickly , cheaply and safely by blasting them with a mixture of gin and detergent.
- ‘Slug-proof’ your plants for the summer months by smearing petroleum jelly on the rim of the flower pot. You can also deter slugs from attacking your summer vegetables by scattering crushed eggshells – slugs hate to crawl on rough surfaces.
