Distribution: This spp is found in seasonally damp areas in the Namaqualand Klipkoppe, southwards to the Cape Peninsula and the Calvinia district.

Description: This erect perennial herb can grow to a height of one meter.  The leaves are 65mm wide and up to 50 cm long, the basal leaves entire, linear with many veins.  The rhizome is upright and covered with fibres.

Flower: The flowers are yellow to deep orange, 2,5 cm long & 4.5 cm in diameter.  The flowers are borne in a dense spike, the stamens are not bearded.

Grower:  Mother Nature

Common names:  Geelkopmannetjie (Afrikaans) - Eng translation, "yellow head man", geelkatstert (Afrikaans) - Eng translation, "yellow cat tail".

Point of Interest: The name used to be bulbinella floribunda.  There are 16 spp of bulbinella in SA of which 6 occur in Namaqualand.
