Gethyllis afra (in habitat)

Distribution: In sandy soils from Clanwilliam to Caledon, this plant was photographed 40km to the east of Springbok, ZA.
Description: A geophyte with a small globose
bulb, there are several hairy or hairless, spirally twisted narrow leaves (absent during flowering).
Flower: The star-shaped flowers appear on a stiff stalk in December to January, they are white on
the inner surface and tinged red on the outer surface.  The yellow to orange, fragrant and edible fruit appear after flowering.  The fruit can be seen in this image.
