Distribution: Found in moist, sandy areas in the Springbok area in Namaqualand, Northern Cape, ZA. |

Description: A perennial herb with a bulb. The plant can grow to a height of about 30cm. There are two lanceolate leaves. |

Flower: Many mauve flowers are borne on a single stem, the tips of the flower darken to purple as they get older. Flowering occurs in August and early September. |

Common Names: Cape Cowslip. Viooltjie (Afrikaans), English translation, "violin". Naeltjie (Afrikaans), English translation, "needle". |
