Hyacinthaceae

ornithogalum_spp.JPG (25855 bytes)

Distribution: Found from Namaqualand to Swellendam in shallow pockets on rockfaces.  I found these in my rockery, the seeds must've been in the sand that I got from the Buffels Riverbed.

Description:  A deciduous perennial geophyte (10 cm in height) with a bulb.  There are several green, opposite, linear basal leaves.

Flower: The flowers (1 cm in diameter) are cup-shaped and orange or yellow in colour.  The flower appears in September to October.
